Sell Mews upsells over WhatsApp

Upsells are the add-ons, upgrades and services your AI can offer guests automatically: breakfast, champagne, parking, a late checkout. If you run Mews, they sync straight from there, and when a guest taps Order the charge lands on their Mews folio. This article covers the whole loop.
This article is written for Mews. Other PMS integrations work the same way where they support upsells, and you can always add upsells by hand.
Where upsells live
In the left menu, open Property, then Upsells.
The list shows every upsell you offer, with its source, its price, and whether it is available as a reactive offer. You can filter by reactive offer on or off, and search by name.
Synced from Mews
Once Mews is connected, Viqal pulls your upsells in automatically. The panel at the top of the page shows the connection status, how many upsells are synced, and when it last refreshed. Click Refresh to pull the latest.
Synced upsells carry a Sync badge in the Source column. Their synced fields are read-only in Viqal, because Mews is the source of truth: change the name or the price in Mews and it flows through on the next refresh.
You can also add upsells that do not exist in Mews. Click Add upsell and fill them in by hand.
What an upsell holds
Open any upsell to see its settings.
Name, description and photo. What the guest sees. The description is also what tells your AI what it is selling, so write it the way you would describe it to a guest.
Reactive offer. Off by default. When it is on, the upsell is available for your AI to offer inside a conversation when it fits. When it is off, the upsell stays in your library and is only used where you place it deliberately, for example in a template or a campaign.
Billing. The type (for example an add-on), the price, and the frequency (fixed, per person, per night). The prices in the list reflect this, so you will see things like "per person per night".
Add to guest folio. When this is on, tapping the order button posts the charge to the guest's folio in Mews. No payment is captured at that moment: reception collects at checkout as normal.
Fulfilment. What happens operationally when a guest orders. Assign a category so the task reaches the right department, and set how quickly it should be fulfilled. Categories are managed in Settings, then Tasks.
Turn an upsell into a message
From the upsell list, use the row menu to create a template from it. Viqal opens a Create template dialog with the upsell already attached.
Choose a format. Card gives you one upsell with a photo, a message and an order button. List picker and carousel formats are coming, and will let you attach up to 10 upsells in one message.
Give the template a name and continue to the editor. It opens pre-filled with the upsell's photo, description and price, and an order button already wired up. Adjust the wording, then create it.
You will be asked the usual two questions:
Broadcast or Follow-up. Broadcast is the first message to a guest and is required for campaigns and Guest Journey steps. It needs WhatsApp approval.
Message category. An upsell is promotional, so choose Marketing, not Utility.
Send it
Once the template is active you can use it like any other:
In a Campaign, as a one-off to a group of guests. Target by guest status and Mews fields, for example everyone with a check-in date of a particular day.
In the Guest Journey, so it goes out automatically at the right moment of every stay.
What the guest sees
The guest receives the photo, your description and the price, with an order button. One tap is all it takes.
If Add to guest folio is on, the charge appears on their bill in Mews straight away, as its own line at the price you set. Your AI confirms it in the chat, and your team sees the order without anyone retyping anything.
